REEEMgame, an open source game to make energy systems understandable

REEEMgame is a learning simulation of how the future will look depending on how the player decides to act. The goal is to maximize the score in 2050, considering the social, environmental and economic dimensions decade by decade. The game aims to let the player interactively discover how (policy) decisions might affect the development of the European electricity sector in the transition to a low carbon system. At three points in time (2020, 2030, 2040) decisions need to be made...

Focus Report – Health Impacts and External Costs due to Air Pollution

This Deliverable 5.2 “Focus Report on Health Impacts and External Costs due to Air Pollution” describes the methodology, main results and insights with regard to health and environmental impacts due to air pollution as an additional indicator for sustainable transformation pathways. By carrying out a comparative scenario analysis of three different pathways, which all feature ambitious GHG mitigation targets, the interactions of decarbonisation and air pollution control are studied, with one scenario having ambitious RES targets as an additional decarbonisation...

Economic Impacts of Energy Transition – Linking energy system model TIMES PanEU with NEWAGE

An energy transition implying deep fuel shifts and significant investments towards decarbonisation is likely to carry impacts on economies, in terms of GDP growth, job market, gains or losses in competitiveness, etc. This analysis is carried out with NEWAGE, a top-down, recursive dynamic general equilibrium model which finds the pare to point between different players in the economy in REEEM project. However, as much as the development of the energy sector has implications for the whole economy, conversely the whole...

REEEM at International Conference on “Energy, Sustainability and Climate Change”

From June 3rd to 7th 2019, the REEEM partner from Energy Institute Hrvoje Pozar (EIHP) will participate in the 6th International Conference on “Energy, Sustainability and Climate Change” in Chania, Greece. For EIHP, Martina Mikulić, Dražen Balić and Ivana Milinković Turalija will participate in the conference. In Session 6 “Power Systems – Renewable Energy”, they will present the REEEM case study on Grid and Dispatch in South Eastern Europe. Look back at the 7th General Assembly: the outcome

From April 15th – 17th the REEEM partners have met in Copenhagen at DTU for the 7th and last General Assembly of the REEEM project. During the two days, the participants exchanged results and processed the work in the project (read here more details about the agenda of the past GA). Besides finalizing the results and discussing the progress, the consortium decided to create a brochure which showcases the REEEM results and the strengths and assets of the REEEM partners for possible future cooperations...

European Energy System Transition: Regional Energy Security and Grid & Dispatch

This Deliverable 6.4 composes the Policy Brief of the workpackage 6. Two case studies are considered to have a deeper look at certain regions and different modelling approaches for the transition pathways of European Union towards a low carbon society. It includes the main insights obtained in these case studies. It enlightens key conclusions based on the findings of the case studies. The Policy Brief builds on the detailed analyses reported in Deliverable 6.2 –Regional Energy Security Case Study Report...
