European Energy System Transition: Regional Energy Security and Grid & Dispatch

This Deliverable 6.4 composes the Policy Brief of the workpackage 6. Two case studies are considered to have a deeper look at certain regions and different modelling approaches for the transition pathways of European Union towards a low carbon society. It includes the main insights obtained in these case studies. It enlightens key conclusions based on the findings of the case studies. The Policy Brief builds on the detailed analyses reported in Deliverable 6.2 –Regional Energy Security Case Study Report...

Coming up: REEEM final meeting

After three years, the REEEM project comes to an end by the end of July. For this occasion, the final meeting of the REEEM project partners will take place from July 15th – 17th in Brussels at the European Commission. In three days, all partners come together to discuss the success of the project. On day one, the preparations for the meeting will be made: The participants will collect internal results, discuss and prepare the project presentation for the European...

EMP-E 2019 now open for registration

On 8th – 9th October 2019, the Energy Modelling Platform for Europe Conference (EMP-E 2019) will take place for the third time. This conference is hosted by nine projects funded within the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme – MEDEAS , MAGIC, MAGNITUDE, plan4res, PLANET, REEEM, Reflex, SET-Nav and Spine – and is open to experts, scientists and policy makers, to exchange views and research on current energy modelling issues. The conference takes place in Brussels at the...

Last REEEM General Assembly has started

Yesterday, the last General Assembly (GA) of the REEEM project has started. It is the last occasion for the project partners to meet, before the final meeting in July in Brussels. During the two days of the GA, participants from the eleven project partner institutions finalize the work in the project, discuss and finish the REEEM product, prepare the final meeting in July and collect contributions for the upcoming Energy Modelling Platform for Europe Conference  2019 (EMP-E 2019) in October....

Data Management Plan – Collection, processing and dissemination of data in REEEM

The Data Management Plan (DMP) constitutes a deliverable of the project. It aims at providing a clear picture of how the project manages data and metadata. The DMP describes the data management life cycle for the data to be collected, processed and/or generated by this Horizon 2020 project. One of the grand challenges of data-intensive science is to facilitate knowledge discovery by assisting humans and machines in their discovery of, access to, integration and analysis of, scientific data and their...

Policy Brief – Accounting for Ecosystem Services in Energy Planning

The Policy Brief on accounting for ecosystem services in energy planning provides policy recommendations based on a detailed analysis focusing on Lithuania reported in Deliverable 5.4 – Ecosystem Services Case Study Report. The case study assessed impacts of alternative forest management strategies on multiple ecosystem services (bioenergy feedstock, industrial wood, carbon storage, recreation and habitat that supports biodiversity), as well as developed and discussed linking between an ecosystem service assessment tool and an energy systems model in order to integrate...

Case study report on ecosystem services: How to link an ecosystem service assessment tool and an energy sector development model?

Within the framework of the REEEM project, the case study was included in Work Package 5 on Environment, Health and Resources, where multiple sustainability goals are addressed for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the system-wide implications of decarburization pathways. The case study of Lithuania intended to assess impacts on multiple ecosystem services of forest bioenergy options, as well as to take the first steps for model linking between an ecosystem service assessment tool, and an energy sector development model. In...

Starting today: Online course on battery storage technology

Based on the results of the first REEEM roadmap on battery storage application (see deliverable D2.1a), an online course has been designed and produced by InnoEnergy in order to answer the question: Could battery storage technology be the answer to imbalanced energy demands? This course primarily is based on the analyses and findings of the REEEM roadmap and will cover: The need for flexibility demand in the EU electricity industry and the role of battery storage. Battery storage technologies: characteristics, potentials...

REEEM Technology and Innovation Roadmap Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Buildings now open for registration!

On March 19th 2019, the third REEEM Technology and Innovation Roadmap Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Buildings will take place at EIT InnoEnergy in Brussels. Energy efficiency is at the top of the EU priorities for the Energy Union, as stated in the Clean Energy Package for all Europeans as “Energy Efficiency First”. Therefore, the objective of the REEEM roadmap is to explore innovative methods and technologies that enable reaching EU energy efficiency targets for 2030. It further explores the...
